Finding Out What Your iPhone Is Locked To?

iPhone GSX Report

Finding out what network your iPhone is locked to can be harder than you think.
Some retailers especially Carphone Warehouse in the UK have agreements with Apple to buy their handset stock unlocked but with the condition they lock to the first sim that is activated in it.
This sounds straight forward but can cause confusion when attempting to unlock it.

The definitive method is to order a full report on your iPhone, this is commonly known as a GSX report.
This report lists all the data about your phone including the model, colour, warranty information but most importantly the original network and what the “Next Tether” of the phone is.
The “Next Tether” is what the phone will lock to the next time its activated.
In the case of Carphone Warehouse supplied handsets the “Next Tether” is often Carphone Flex Policy.
If your “Next Tether” is Carphone Flex Policy then you need to use the specific Carphone Warehouse service to unlock your phone, this is regardless if you bought it with a particular network sim card.

Handsets that have been exchanged by Apple for warranty purposes also have a similar scenario when it comes to unlocking them.
They again lock to the first sim that is activated in the phone.
If you have your phone exchanged by Apple but need it unlocking then it is advisable to not activate it straight away.
Again if you run a GSX report you will see your “Next tether” as EMEA or APAC.
To unlock this handset you will need to use the specific EMEA or APAC services to unlock your phone, this is regardless of what sim was in the handset prior to it being exchanged.
