Apple have in the past made things difficult for independent iPhone repairers.
The error 53 issue appeared when phones were trying to be updated that had a aftermarket home button fitted.
After public pressure this was addressed in an update and phones could be updated / restored again.

The 11.0.3 version of iOS recently released has one interesting release note.

Addresses an issue where touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone 6s displays because they were not serviced with genuine Apple parts

So it appears at least one previous version of iOS11 had started to make aftermarket screens have touch issues.

With the cost of screen repairs rising at Apple stores it’s natural owners will look to get their phones repaired from independent repair centres.
